planter's punch


ingredients:

1 1/2 oz dark rum
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz pineapple juice
1/2 oz orange juice
1/4 oz simple syrup
1 barspoon grenadine


garnish: cherry, mint sprig

glass: highball

prep time: 4 min

instructions:

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake until chilled. Strain over ice into a highball glass. Garnish with a pineapple wedge, cherry and mint sprig.

Planter's punch is a classic rum drink that first appeared in print in a 1908 edition of The New York Times. Like many other drinks, its origin is disputed: One claim refers to the Planter's Hotel in St. Louis and another tells of a Jamaican planter's wife who concocted it to cool down the workers.

This drink has many recipe variations. There is no right way or wrong way. It seems like everyone has their own version of making it.
